MONDAY: VIVE LE COLD AIR, VIVE LE SNOW. PARIS, TEXAS, LAST WEEKEND, PARIS, FRANCE, LATER THIS WEEK.

I am talking snow. The retrogression of the ridge in underway, and arctic air will charge southwest through western Europe the next several days and then get reinforced this weekend and next week with the coldest prolonged period of the winter on the way for all of western Europe.

The first problem is for northern Italy, France and Spain. The strong upper feature that dives southwest through France and then through Spain to west of Spain will have a charge of arctic air with it. As it gets farther west later Thursday through Saturday, more moist Mediterranean air will overrun the cold air, and we will have a setup for a widespread snow across France and into Spain as well as northern Italy. And I am not just talking mountains here.

Now a lot of you do not know, but there is a Paris in Texas, and it snowed there last weekend. Well, the more famous Paris may get snowed on later this week.

The strong negative NAO that is developing is cranking quick. It is funny, but a couple of weeks ago, this was outlined here, and as I backed away last week (I am confessing to being wrong) for this week, but it is coming. The next trough comes diving in farther west, right through England. So, get ready for weather as cold or colder and lasting longer than what we had earlier this winter.

In short, it is a wild-looking pattern. The consolation prize is that the much maligned eastern and southeast part of Europe will not be as cold.
