Après une accalmie ce vendredi, le week-end s'annonce très agité avec le retour des tornades sur pas mal d'états:

Between the rain band and the cold front, a narrow corridor of scattered severe thunderstorms will develop through this evening from southern Michigan, Indiana and Ohio to the Ark-La-Tex. Although much less prolific than Thursday, damaging wind gusts, hail and isolated tornadoes are possible.

On Saturday, the front will stall out across the South and then begin to return northward as a warm front advancing from Oklahoma into southern Kansas. At the same time, a sharp dry line boundary will push eastward across southwest Kansas, the Oklahoma Panhandle and far western Texas. The upper-level support from the next Western storm will begin to act on these boundaries to ignite some nasty supercell thunderstorms. These storms should begin to fire Saturday afternoon and contain large hail, tornadoes and a few damaging wind gusts.

The Western storm will cruise from northern Kansas to northern Illinois Sunday. With the cold front holding back, Gulf moisture surging northward and a potent upper-level trigger, severe thunderstorms from out of southeastern Nebraska and the eastern portions of Kansas and Oklahoma will head eastward across the mid-Mississippi Valley and Arkansas and into the southern Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and western Tennessee. This outbreak has similarities to what occurred on March 12th. Tornadoes, large hail and damaging wind gusts are all possible as this Sunday event unfolds.

It was an evening/overnight full of hail and damaging wind-producing thunderstorms. The nasty storms originated around southwestern Kansas and the Panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon and then marched eastward towards the mid-Mississippi Valley by the early morning hours of Sunday; dropping large hail and producing winds of up to 60 to 70 mph. The cities of Tulsa, Okla. and Joplin, Mo. dealt with the powerful winds and frequent lightning during the wee hours of the morning as the storms rushed through.

Unfortunately, there is no let-up today as the atmosphere is ripe for a continuation of severe weather this afternoon and through the evening hours. All of the ingredients for a severe weather outbreak are coming together across the Plains and Midwest. A warm and humid (unstable) air mass in place, strong and intensifying upper disturbance rolling into Kansas/Missouri, an energetic jet stream (very strong winds aloft) pouring into the mid-Mississippi Valley, and an intensifying surface low pressure are all conspiring to create a possibly very violent day of hail, damaging winds, and most importantly -- several large/long-tracking tornadoes. This event may be similar to another severe weather event that is fresh in people's minds; a tornado outbreak that occurred on March 12th. Kansas City, St. Louis, & Jefferson City, Mo.; Chicago, Springfield, & Quincy, Illinois; Des Moines & Davenport, Iowa; and Indianapolis, Ind. could all experience severe weather during this afternoon/evening. Residents from Missouri to Indiana will want to keep a close eye on the weather for rapidly deteriorating conditions. Remember to take shelter immediately if a tornado warning is issued for your county.

Severe thunderstorms exploded mid-afternoon Sunday from southern Iowa to northern Arkansas producing golf-ball-to-softball-size hail, damaging wind gusts to at least 81 mph and tornadoes, including the city of Springfield, Illinois, which had been previously hit by two tornadoes in the March 12th outbreak. Between 3 and 8 p.m. CDT, about 300 severe reports were received. There has already been one fatality near Circle City in southeast Missouri when winds overturned a home.

As the severe thunderstorms shift east of the mid-Mississippi River Valley, the southern Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and Tennessee Valley will be the target for the triple threat of tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds overnight. A few severe thunderstorms may extend as far south as northern Mississippi, northern Louisiana and eastern Texas. Flood warnings, meanwhile, are posted for parts of North Dakota and the Upper Midwest.

In the West, a new Pacific storm will deliver heavy rain and snow to portions of California. Heavy snow warnings are posted for northern California above 4000 feet; 10 to 20 inches of fresh snow are expected by late Monday afternoon. In the Sierras, winter storm warnings are in effect for elevations above 6000 feet; one to two feet of new snow are likely by Monday evening. Flood watches have been issued for portions of northwest and north-central Nevada, the Reno area and the burn areas of Southern California.

Ce mois de mars a ete le mois de mars qui a eu le plus de tornades. On est passé de 14 tornades en février a 219 tornades en mars au USA

C'est la 3eme fois que ce mois il y a plus de 150 tornades donc c'est pas courant.

Depuis 1950 le nombre de tornades a bien augmenté comme en 1950 il y a eu 201 torandes en un an alors que maintenant il y a des mois avec bp plus de tornades.

C'est la 3eme fois que ce mois il y a plus de 150 tornades donc c'est pas courant.

Depuis 1950 le nombre de tornades a bien augmenté comme en 1950 il y a eu 201 torandes en un an alors que maintenant il y a des mois avec bp plus de tornades.

Effectivement, l'urbanisation et les moyens actuels permettent de mieux repérer et comptabiliser le nombre et l'intensité des tornades (parfois de manière dramatique malheureusement)...

Ces chiffres sont donc à prendre avec précautions. Ceci dit, superbe travail mais quelles sont les sources car je ne trouve pas les mêmes chiffres sur le site NOAA?

Euh, le lien je l'avais mis... Je le remets ici: NOAA qui est le même que tu donnes. Il n'y pas de prédictions mais une colonne préliminaire du nombre de tornades et le chiffre définitif après vérification...

De nouvelles tornades sont au programme des prochaines heures:

A very large and powerful storm system will move into the Great Plains, producing a severe weather outbreak this afternoon. Supercell thunderstorms will likely develop in Nebraska/Kansas during the mid afternoon hours and move east during the evening hours. Severe thunderstorms will also initiate from southwestern Missouri to northeastern Texas by early evening. These storms will be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail, and numerous tornadoes. People in the above areas need to pay close attention to rapidly changing weather conditions and heed any warnings that are issued for their county. By Friday, this storm system will likely produce severe weather from the Southeast to the Ohio Valley.

A band of nearly stationary rain, stretching from eastern Iowa to central Illinois, has produced very heavy rain over the past 8 hours with nearly 3” of rain near Springfield, Ill. This band of rain will slowly start to move toward Chicago later this afternoon and eventually into Minneapolis.

Winter storm watches and warnings are widespread across the Central and Northern Rockies as a powerful storm system lumbers across the region. From Utah and Colorado northward into Montana, expect heavy snow and strong winds over the next 12 to 18 hours. Parts of the Wasatch and the Colorado Rockies will easily pick up over a foot of snow while some of the high terrain in Montana could see three feet of snow. In addition to the snow, expect wind gusts approaching 50 mph in some locations. The heavy snowfall and widespread valley rain will slowly diminish late this afternoon/evening.
